My Accomplishments, Regrets and Discoveries Of 2021

For one year and four months now, I have been away from my hometown. I have been to exactly 15 counties within the country, out of the 47, and only lived in 3 of them. Each and every of these places had their own adventures. But there is even more adventure in going through more and more experiences of life. Acquiring new skills, learning new languages, developing new habits et cetera et cetera. They are all interesting things to explore for personal growth.

As 2021 comes to an end, I take some time to look at how it has been to me. I believe the best way to put it…is looking at what I have achieved, what I have not done (or regret about) and what I have discovered.

My Accomplishments

I did a lot of things that I am proud of. I learned new skills, intentionally met new people, and worked a lot on myself. The most visible accomplishment that I am happy to have done is starting my website and blog. When I am not in control of anything else, I am in control of this blog.

Writing my experiences and telling weird stories here, is something that I do not need anyone’s permission to do. And I like doing it. One, because it is taking me out of my comfort zone. And two, because it is subconsciously training me to express myself. The experience of running this blog website is a treasure (it is worth more the hosting price, LOL).

My Regrets/Failures

Do I really have anything I regret? I believe NOT. The truth is I made mistakes. I started a challenge in August – 66 DAYS OF DATA. I was to relearn data science and machine learning for 66 days in a row. After day 33, I felt overwhelmed and strained. A lot of things were going on and I had to be true to myself. Eventually, I stopped the challenge. And I made many more other mistakes.

Basically, what I am saying is that I do not regret anything. I believe that every ‘mistake’ I make is a great experience to learn from. And the truth is through making mistakes, I have always opened doors for other opportunities. They are good mistakes 🙂

My 3 Most Interesting Discoveries

1. My hair looks great when it’s messy than when it’s combed.

For more than two decades, I lived combing my hair just to look good and hopefully win all the girls in the neighborhood. And I was wrong. Haha. That sounds crazy. I know. The fact and the truth is…messy hair look good on my triangle face than combed hair.

2. Nobody gives a f*ck.

It’s very common or likely to do things to impress others. Well, the hard truth is nobody really is following your life like a TV Series. People are doing their sh*ts and they don’t give a f*ck about you. Wait, are they even aware that you exist? Okay, that sounds rude. Perhaps I will be nice with you next time.

Here is the thing. You have got to do your things without phobia of appearing to make mistakes. Just make sure you are responsible, and you are taking control of your life. Don’t do things ‘because we live once’. Do things because that’s what you want to do. The most important thing is intentionally living a healthy life that you are confident and happy about.

3. A warthog is shorter than I thought.

Ohh…Yeah. I was in a small, green, calm and conservative town of Naro Moru, Kenya. Located between two great views, Mt. Kenya (highest mountain in Kenya) in the far East, and Aberdares Ranges (longest ranges in the country) in the far West, the town has lots of long ranches that go for more than 5 kilometers each.

So one of this warm evenings, I decided to take a long walk (perfect thing to do in the touristic town) along one of the ranches. Then I saw a warthog grazing inside. And I was like… – Wait a minute! This is a super short animal! – Haha. Thanks to Kenya Wildlife Service and the people of Kenya for protecting and conserving animals. Thou must travelth.

The Most Important Take Away is…

It feels great to intentionally explore all aspects of your life.

Alright. You know what? I was supposed to work on a different article but this one seemed even more interesting to write. I hope it made any sense to you. If it did not…thanks for reading. I love you. And Happy New Year.
