When Covid mercilessly invaded the world in 2020, it sent almost everybody home and a lot of people lost their jobs. The long lockdowns that never seemed to be ending any sooner made people to rethink their careers. Even after the world economy was opening, some people never turned back to their old careers. Covid gave everybody a different perspective and definition about work and money. One generation that has agreed to embrace Covid changes to their career life, is generation Z. And today in this article, I will share with you top 3 careers that Gen Z are adopting and embracing after Covid pandemic. Follow to the end, because I will show you how and why generation Z are adopting these careers.

1. Social Media

Before the Covid pandemic, the average generation Z knew social media only as a platform to connect with friends, have fun (e.g by dating online) and probably gain fame. After being sent and locked at homes for the longest periods of their lives (more than their long holiday seasons), however, they had to reconsider the power of social media. Given that a lot of businesses were now operating online, and a couple more were specifically running on social media, the generation Z had to offer their social media skills to the services of the businesses. Perhaps this is basically because a lot of their predecessors (especially generation Z) have never understood what social media is. Nevertheless, the generation Z saw the shift to social media as a new gold mine to be explored.

So, there were specific fields in social media that generation Z found as good career options. For example, a lot of e-commerce sales were happening during the pandemic. Therefore there was need for more social media marketers to help the brands reach out to more people. And because the social media market was now becoming even more competitive, many businesses had to use advertisements to boost their brands. So, there was need for people to run ads too. Other careers that also boomed as a result of this shift are virtual assistants. The social media platforms that gave the greatest market for this career transitions were TikTok, Instagram and Facebook. And these are the home-base social media platforms for generation Z, so they made the greatest gains.

2. Content Creation

One of the conspicuous effect of Covid that everybody remembers at the time, was the high number of depression and idleness. And because these were the two main points of the whole world at that particular time, their had to be a solution. The solution to curbing depression was producing virtual entertainment to the quarantined world. And because people were idle at the same time, there was need to engage their minds even as they were locked in their homes. So classes and programs on how to prevent idleness even when doing nothing at home, popped up to the virtual public. These two solutions turned out to be the greatest opportunity to the world economy evolution. It gave birth to a new career called content creation (or at least it emphasized it).

One of the top content creation careers that gained a lot of popularity during the Covid pandemic was YouTube video creation. While this career was not really specific to any generation, it turned out that a lot of generation Z adopted and embraced Youtubing. And slowly by slowly, content creation among generation Z gained access to other generation Z main social media platforms. Like TikTok and Instagram. Even after countries have opened up, the content creation field is not ending any soon. And to the generation Z economy specifically, it’s not to end. Here is why. The social media and the internet happens to be the most secure area of the now and the future. And because the now and the future economy is going to be more dominated by generation Z, social media and internet will continue to grow. Hence, the content creation career will also continue to grow.

3. Influencer Marketing

Now for the generation Z that had or are gaining more following and ‘fame’ on social media, the Covid pandemic presented a new opportunity to their world. Instead of using the following for liking their photos and funny videos, their was a new redirection to be done. The Covid pandemic made influencer marketing popular than the previous years. As more and more businesses adopted online presence, there was need to adopt online marketing strategies like influencer marketing. Basically this is where a business contracts a person with a large following on social media, and uses them to brand, market and sell their products to an even more larger audience.

Influencer marketing had been there even before (especially with big brands like Google), but it became even more popular to smaller businesses during Covid. And even Today, it’s growing bigger and bigger and it’s here NOW to stay. And because Today’s influencer marketing is gaining popularity on social media platforms like YouTube, Facebook, Instagram and TikTok, generation Z are dominating the industry.

As long as the internet and social media are here to stay (and they actually are), these 3 careers will be the top careers for generation Z in the next couple of years. This is basically because, generation Z is the youngest generation in the current world economy. That means, they are more likely to adopt and embrace any upcoming advancement to the internet and social media. In fact, the next big thing in social media and internet will hit on generation Z.
